Teamsters Joint Council 16 represents 120,000 workers in Downstate New York and Puerto Rico. Our 26 locals represent workers in just about every industry. As part of the 1.4 million member strong International Brotherhood of Teamsters, they are America’s strongest and most diverse union.

The Story

For Teamsters Joint Council 16, I developed a fully custom WordPress theme tailored to the needs of a large, multi‑chapter labor organization. The goal was to create a modern, durable platform that could support news updates, leadership communications, and resources for thousands of members across the region. Every template and component was built from scratch, giving the Council a clean, accessible, and easily maintainable digital foundation.

A major part of the project was building a searchable, browsable database of all local chapters. I architected the data structure, designed intuitive filtering and browsing tools, and ensured that members could quickly find contact information, leadership details, and service areas for any local. This system replaced outdated static lists with a dynamic, user‑friendly directory that made it dramatically easier for members to connect with the right chapter.

To support ongoing communication efforts, I also implemented email list management and designed a custom HTML email template that aligned with the Council’s brand and worked reliably across major email clients. This gave the organization a consistent, professional way to share updates, mobilize members, and coordinate regional initiatives. Together, these components created a cohesive digital ecosystem that strengthened outreach, improved usability, and modernized the Council’s online presence.
