As part of NYU Steinhardt’s effort to modernize how student teachers are placed in NYC classrooms, I built a comprehensive online placement portal that connected student teachers, university staff, and participating schools in a single, unified system. The goal was to replace a patchwork of spreadsheets, emails, and manual processes with a centralized platform that could manage every stage of the placement lifecycle — from matching and approvals to evaluations and certification tracking. The portal became the digital backbone of Steinhardt’s fieldwork program, supporting hundreds of placements each semester.
A core component of the system was secure NetID Single Sign‑On, ensuring that student teachers, faculty, and administrators could access the platform with their existing NYU credentials. I built an automated data‑import pipeline that synchronized student records, program requirements, school partners, and placement assignments directly from NYU’s internal systems. This eliminated manual data entry, reduced errors, and ensured that every placement reflected the most current academic and administrative information.
To support the full fieldwork experience, I developed tools for placement tracking, school‑side confirmations, and faculty oversight, along with structured workflows for mid‑semester and final evaluations. The system generated anonymized, role‑specific reports for program directors, certification officers, and supervising faculty, ensuring that each audience received the right level of detail while maintaining student privacy. Crucially, the portal also served as the system of record for teacher certification requirements, giving Steinhardt a reliable, auditable source of truth for state compliance.
By combining secure authentication, automated data integration, multi‑audience workflows, and certification‑grade reporting, I delivered a platform that transformed how NYU Steinhardt manages student teacher placements. The result was a streamlined, transparent, and scalable system that improved the experience for students, strengthened partnerships with NYC schools, and ensured the university could meet its rigorous certification obligations.
