Orientation Portal for New Students

A detailed communication strategy and digital campaign to communicate with admitted students, welcome them to the community, and make sure they are set up for success when they arrive at NYU.

The Story

As part of NYU’s effort to modernize the admitted‑student experience, I created a fully interactive Online Orientation Portal designed to guide new students through their first steps with clarity and confidence. Instead of relying on static PDFs or scattered email instructions, I built a structured, narrative‑driven onboarding flow that walked students through essential information at their own pace. This included a series of video lessons that broke down complex topics into digestible segments, ensuring students felt informed and supported from day one.

To support this strategy, I developed a suite of interactive tools that allowed incoming students to ask questions directly to the faculty they’d soon be studying with, participate in live video chats with advisors, and connect with current students who could offer real‑world insight. These features transformed the portal into a dynamic, two‑way environment where students felt seen, supported, and part of the community long before stepping on campus. The platform blended thoughtful UX with reliable technical infrastructure to ensure every interaction felt seamless.

The impact was immediate and measurable. By giving students meaningful early engagement, personalized guidance, and direct access to the NYU community, the portal cut the “application‑to‑enrollment” attrition rate in half. This outcome demonstrated the power of combining digital experience design with behavioral insight — and showed how a well‑crafted orientation platform can strengthen institutional relationships before day one.
