Madame X has been a staple in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City since 1997. Founded by three women who knew how to have fun, Madame X has lived as a safe space for all New Yorkers seeking to indulge. We are a bar and lounge on Houston Street that offers both an incredible place to hang with friends for happy hour and a place to dance the night away on Friday or Saturday once our DJ hits the booth.
The Story
For Madame X Bar & Lounge, I led the full migration from Wix to a custom WordPress theme built specifically for the venue’s aesthetic and operational needs. The goal was to give the bar a more flexible, professional, and scalable platform while preserving the iconic visual identity that makes Madame X a downtown institution. The new theme delivered a faster, more stable site with complete creative control — something Wix simply couldn’t offer.
A major feature of the build was a custom photo gallery system designed for staff to easily upload, organize, and showcase event photography. The gallery was engineered to be fully admin‑friendly, with drag‑and‑drop tools, automatic image optimization, and a layout that highlighted the venue’s atmosphere and nightlife energy. This gave Madame X a dynamic, ever‑fresh visual presence that reflected the real experience of being there.
To round out the platform, I integrated social media tools including a live Instagram feed and built‑in sharing features that helped amplify events and drive engagement. These integrations kept the site visually active and aligned with the bar’s social footprint, making it easy for visitors to discover upcoming events and share them with friends. The result was a modern, expressive, and highly functional digital presence that strengthened Madame X’s connection with its community.
