For 120 years and counting, the National Audubon Society has preserved bird habitats, conducted scientific research, influenced policymakers to enact commonsense conservation laws, and engaged communities across the hemisphere to protect the natural resources upon which birds—and we—depend.
The Story
I played a key role in The Audubon Society’s transition to a unified digital ecosystem, supporting the organization through its migration to Drupal and helping establish the technical and structural foundation for a modern, scalable web presence. As part of this effort, I provided strategic guidance on how to consolidate the organization’s many regional offices and nature preserves into a single, coherent system. This work required balancing national‑level consistency with the unique needs of local chapters, ensuring the final architecture was flexible, maintainable, and future‑proof.
To support the organization’s internal teams, I co‑wrote major sections of Audubon’s staff documentation and admin manuals, translating complex technical workflows into clear, accessible instructions. I also assisted in multiple training sessions for staff across the country, helping editors, administrators, and chapter leads understand the new system and feel confident using it. This combination of documentation and hands‑on training ensured a smooth transition and empowered the organization to manage its content independently.
On the production side, I single‑handedly migrated the content for twelve regional offices and chapters into the new platform — a large‑scale effort that required meticulous data handling, content restructuring, and quality assurance. To elevate the user experience, I also created rich interactive elements using CSS and JavaScript, bringing motion, clarity, and engagement to key sections of the site. By combining technical execution, content migration, and organizational enablement, I helped Audubon launch a unified, modern digital presence that strengthened both their brand and their operational efficiency.
